Immerse Yourself In Sound For A Better Night’s Sleep
Listening to specific sounds at bedtime, such as nature sounds, audiobooks and pink noise can help you drift off to sleep quickly. Scientists at Brighton and Sussex medical school did a study and found that listening to calming background noise before bedtime lowers blood pressure and heart rate, as well as relaxing the body. You can use the sounds to help slow down your breathing, and get a great night’s sleep. Here are some different soundscapes that can help you.
Pink noise
Pink noise, like white noise is a blanket of sound that helps to block out other noises. The difference with pink noise however is that it has a steady, balanced mix of low and high frequencies, designed to improve the quality of your sleep. It is so named because light waves that are on the same frequency appear pink. The BST-80 Sound Sleep Therapy System includes doctor-developed pink noise to help you drift off at night. The sounds will not only help block out any external noise, but also give you better quality REM sleep.
Listening to Audiobooks
Many parents read stories to their children at bedtime. It is not only a valuable part of their education, but also a way to help calm their minds before they go to sleep. They understand the daily routine, and look forward a soothing voice and a relaxing tale. So why don’t we still listen to stories at bedtime? Playing an audiobook before you go to sleep is ideal to help you to wind down. Child psychologist Dr Damon Ashworth conducted a study and found that listening to audiobooks, as opposed to reading before bed not only helps you to sleep for longer, but can also improve the quality of your sleep.
Sleep Coaching
Many people meditate and practice mindfulness before bed in order to help them relax and sleep. Using a sleep coach, like the one that comes with the GTS-1000 Glo Mask can also help you to zone into that peaceful stage before sleep very quickly. The gentle sounds and instructions help to slow down your breathing, and lower your heart rate and blood pressure, giving you a relaxed feeling of well-being.
Immersing yourself in sound really can give you a better nights sleep. You can improve not only how long you sleep for, but also the quality of the sleep that you are getting.
